The Stiletto: Manolos, Louboutins, Jimmys...

Jimmy Choo, born Choo Yeang Keat, was born in Penang (Malaysia) into a family of shoemakers. He is now known for founding Jimmy Choo Ltd. He made his first shoe when he was just 11. His beginning can be traced to Hackney in 1986, his craftsmanship and designs were soon noticed and in 1988 Vogue did 8 pages on his creations. In 1996 he co-founded Jimmy Choo Ltd with British Vogue magazine accessories editor Tamara Mellon. In 2001 he sold his 50% stake. The company has built up an extremely loyal, star-studded clientele since the launch of the label.

Manolo Blahnik, born and raised in The Canary Islands (Spain), after graduated in the University of Geneva, he moved to Paris to study art. In 1968, moved to London and started to work at fashion boutique Zapata and starts also writing to Vogue Italia. After showing his portfolio of designs to Diana Vreeland (Harper's Bazaar and Vogue Editor), she tells him to design only shoes...and so he does...He buys Zapata boutique and starts his own. In the 70s he turned back his attention to the stiletto heel, which has remained the brand's mainstay to this day. Manolo Blahnik shoes have rapidly become a symbol of pure classical style for the 21st century; even more with Sex and the city main character: Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah J.Parker) loves the Manolos shoes...
